Opportunity knocks – Symply Smashing Symposium
Bookings for the NTF-organised event on the topic of Making a difference to be held at Birmingham City University, Thursday 28th-Friday 29th March 2019 will be opening shortly via the AdvanceHE site.
This event will be open to all but will feature panel sessions, keynotes and workshops led by NTFs and CATE winners. Thanks to the generosity of BCU’s VC Prof Phil Plowden (who is himself an NTF) we will be able to make this a very reasonably-priced event since we don’t have to pay for daytime rooms, and will include within the fee a celebratory dinner on the Thursday at Edgbaston Cricket Club.
NOTE: Delegates will be responsible for booking their own overnight accommodation. Do hold the date in your diaries!
Particularly for NTF 2018 winners, you might not have seen the call for session proposals; this is detailed below. The deadline for proposals is Friday 14th December. Do come along and join in with this prime NTF networking event.

Call for proposals for the NTF symposium March 28th-29th 2019 at BCU
Proposals are invited to present, lead, and facilitate sessions based on the Symposium’s sub-themes:
- Fostering good practice in pedagogic research and scholarship;
- Engendering creative and innovative approaches;
- Working in partnership with diverse role-holders across the HE community to enhance the student experience;
- Leading by example: supporting the further development of junior colleagues through mentoring and buddying;
- Maximising impact of learning developments.
Please provide an abstract (max 250 words) detailing the background or context of your proposal and the extent to which it will be participatory. Please include the names of any Excellence Award holders involved in presenting and which of the themes your session aims to address. We are especially keen to highlight the impact the Excellence Award holders have made on the teaching, learning and assessment community. You are invited to propose:
- Panel session contribution of up to 15 minutes
- Workshops: 45 mins
- Whole symposium plenaries of 45 minutes
Our symposia are normally over-subscribed, so a selection process will be undertaken by the organisers. As in earlier years, we will give priority to colleagues who have not recently presented in an NTF/CATE symposium.
The call for submissions for the March Symposium is now open, with a closing date of mid-day (UK time) 14th December 2018. We will aim to advise you in January if we can include your session in the programme. All presenters need to register for the symposium, bookings for which will remain open until early March. Please submit proposals by email to sara.houston@roehampton.ac.uk and copy to s.brown@leedsbeckett.ac.uk
